I got back from my vacation a couple of days ago and i’m still sick and jet lagged. It rained in Hongkong while we were there and that’s where I got my cough and colds. Anyhow, I’ll try to update the remaining “day” entries as soon as i can. =)

I have been reading non-stop since I came back from my vacation. I just finished Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins and Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan and John Rocco. Both novels are wonderful and very entertaining. I’ve been waiting for the third and final installment of the Anna and the French Kiss series since last year, it was a bit delayed but it was worth the wait! For all the fans of the series or any YA contemporary romance novel fan, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Isla and the Happily Ever After. Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods is an interesting spin to my favorite Greek Mythology, it was such a fun read! I also loved the illustration. Don’t forget to add this book on your TBR.

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss #3) by Stephanie Perkins

From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.

Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods (Percy Jackson and the Olympians companion book) by Rick Riordan (Goodreads Author), John Rocco (Illustrator).

‘A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like, Can we do this anonymously? Because I don’t need the Olympians mad at me again. But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week.’ So begins Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic–and sarcastic asides–to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on a who’s who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. ‘If you like horror shows, blood baths, lying, stealing, backstabbing, and cannibalism, then read on, because it definitely was a Golden Age for all that.’ Dramatic full-color illustrations throughout by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco make this volume–a must for home, library, and classroom shelves–as stunning as it is entertaining.

Manila Ocean Park!!!

Manila Ocean Park!!!

We woke up early because our body clocks still hasn’t adjusted. We had breakfast at Nid’s Binalot which is right in front of our hotel, the food was alright. We returned to our hotel for our little adventure to Manila Ocean Park. Prior to our trip, we already had our tickets paid via Metro Deals. It was a lot cheaper than the standard price and it includes a buffet!

We saw some really interesting sea creatures at Manila Ocean Park but I have to say that my favorite part was the Fish Spa. It was scary at first but it was really fun.

Day 11: After Four Long Years!!!

I woke up really early because I was freaking excited! It was the first day of our week long vacation to the Northern Luzon (of The Philippines). My friend arrived a day ago from Hawaii and was in Ilocos, but she flew from Laoag to Manila. We already had our hotel booked in Timog.

While preparing for my trip, I checked my emails and received a very unexpected news. I won 8 signed paperbacks from a giveaway hosted by Ms. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. I never win anything and I was really happy when I saw her email.

I finally won something!!!

I finally won something!!!

I met up with my friend Phoebe at Farmer’s Plaza before going to our hotel at Timog. We checked-in at Tune Hotel at 2PM. The hotel is very affordable and neat considering its location. The only thing I didn’t like is that the employees weren’t very helpful. I guess they are if you are a white guy. I have 3 luggage with me and NOBODY offered help, while the white guy has only one carry on and they are scrambling to help him. So annoying.

Phoebe went to the airport to fetch my friend Nelie Lyn. I stayed in the hotel for a couple of hours and enjoyed the facilities including the WiFi. I watched endless episodes of Storage Wars and I find it addicting! As soon as my friends arrived, the fun began!

We went to Trinoma because we were supposed to meet another friend there, but she wasn’t able to make it. We ate at Yakimix which totally ruined me for buffets. The queue was very long, we waited for almost three hours before we had our chance to eat. I guess if the wait isn’t that long I would consider going back.

The rest of the night is quite uneventful, we went home and tried to catch some sleep because we’re going to Manila Ocean Park the following day. It’s going to be awesome!

I’ve known these ladies for years and today is the first time that I met them in the flesh! It was really funny because there were no awkward moments. As soon as I saw Hazel, it was like we are long time friends who meet regularly, it was amazing!

I left our house early because we were supposed to meet at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf cafe’ at 9:00 AM. Unfortunately, it rained hard. I was late and arrived at Gateway at 10:00 AM. However, when I checked the cafe’, I didn’t recognize anybody. I then realized that I was the earliest book club member who arrived at the venue. =D

Hazel and Novel.

Hazel arrived a few minutes later. We gushed a little and then went inside the cafe. While we were taking this photo (left), Debbie also arrived.

We discussed the stuff we wanted to change about our blog The Musings of the Book-a-holic Fairies – the lay out, the content, etc. We also had a brief tutorial on how to post on blogger and how to mark emails. Of course we also had snacks, coffee and tea! I had the Moroccan Mint tea latte and I think it was okay.

We video called Melai, one of our book club members who couldn’t make it to the meet-up because she’s overseas, and we had a blast. We were really LOUD and we didn’t care. hahaha!

Several minutes later Debbie’s sister, Flevy, dropped by at the cafe to say hi. She is also a member of the book club but she’s also a law student that’s why she rarely joins discussions and buddy reads.

Since it was Hazel’s first time at the Araneta Center, we invited her to visit the main store of the National Bookstore. We toured the book sections— Children’s, YA, NA, to Adult. We discussed the books we hate and loved, the authors we liked, etc. Again, we were REALLY loud, but we didn’t care, lol!

After our very long discussion about books, we got really hungry, so, we left the store and looked for a restaurant. We decided to eat at Kenny Rogers Roasters.  One of the book club members, Royce, dropped by at the same time we were in KRR, so, we all had our lunch there.

Royce arrived bearing gifts… signed bookmarks!!!

Despite the weather, I really had a great time today. It’s rare to find friends whom you can connect with in an instant regardless of the distance and age differences. I love my book club and I’m really thankful that I found them. I hope that we’ll have more years together as a book club and more successful years ahead for our blog!

Stay safe and dry everyone!

Day 9: Rain, rain go away!

rainy day…

Hi everyone! It’s been raining on and off here in the Metro and I feel really bad for my friend Nelie Lyn, because she is flying here to the Philippines from Hawaii. We actually planned our vacation last year and we were supposed to have it last April. However, things didn’t work well on my end so, it was moved to August. Anyway, while feeling just a tiny bit guilty, I’m so excited to finally see her again after 5 years!

I had to go out with my mom because we were running out of food supplies. Before going to Robinson’s San Jose, me and my mom dropped by an ATM to withdraw some cash. While we were on the line, the old man in front of me asked me to help him withdraw his money because his right hand was amputated and some of the fingers on his left hand are missing. I didn’t ask what happened and just withdrew the money for him. The reason why I’m telling this story is because he’s using a hook on his amputated hand, and I think it was very cool! I’ve met a lot of patients that were amputated but most of them were new amputees and are not using any contraptions yet.

I finished reading Fast Track by Julie Garwood! It’s been a while since I read a JG book and I was completely surprised that I easily remembered all the characters in the FBI series. Julie Garwood will always be one of my favorite authors. I loved her historical novels and equally enjoyed her contemporary romances. When I first started working, a colleague of mine made me read For The Roses by Julie Garwood and that was the beginning of my love for historical romances.

Today is Day 10 and I woke up early because I’m freaking excited to meet my book club friends! We are going to meet at Gateway Mall and will hang out on a cafe to discuss the changes we want to do on our blog. I really hope the weather would cooperate but as of the moment, it’s still raining. -_-

Be safe guys!

Day 8: Time to read books!

On July 29th, there were a lot of new books released and two of them are from my favorite authors— Ilona Andrews and Julie Garwood. It rained the whole day so I decided to read at least one of the books. Magic Breaks is from the Kate Daniels series and I thoroughly enjoyed the book!

Magic Breaks

Magic Breaks

Synopsis:

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

A corrupt congressman, a mother’s secrets, and a sizzling romance ignite passion and suspense in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.

Cordelia Kane has always been a daddy’s girl—her father raised her alone after her mother died in a car crash when Cordelia was just two years old. So when he has a serious heart attack, Cordelia is devastated, and the emotion is only intensified by the confusion she feels when he reveals the shocking truth about her mother.

Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.

Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he unknowingly puts her life at risk. He’s recently angered a powerful congressman by refusing to purchase overvalued land. Congressman Chambers is not a man to let such an offense slide, and he has the resources to get even and to get what he wants.

In Australia sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but multiple attempts on Aiden’s life are made while Cordelia is with him, and he realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.

After reading, I got really bored and decided to make a video to remember our trip to Tagaytay. I didn’t have much photos but it worked because the music was short, hehe. Check this out!

Enjoy your day!
