Hi, it’s been a while since I blogged. My schedule is switched to the night shift and my system isn’t fully adjusted yet. BTW, belated Happy Father’s Day to all fathers out there specially to my Papa! =)

So many things happened the past few weeks, a back to back shooting incident in Florida, Taylor Swift’s break up and her new beau, a toddler dragged by an alligator and eventually died of drowning, and so on. I wouldn’t add more to the comments about Taylor Swift’s love life but I would like to send my deepest condolences to all the family, friends and fans (of Christina Grimmie) of the victims in the shootings in Florida. May the souls of the victims rest in peace.

I have read a lot of books lately, I’m trying to complete my reading challenge as soon as I can. I still have a long way to go but I’m getting there. I read and finished several book series and I’m currently enjoying JD Robb’s In Death series. I did not expect to be really into it when a friend suggested that I read it, but boy, I am so hooked. The setting is in New York. It’s a futuristic mystery novel. The heroine is a detective, Lieutenant Eve Dallas, and the hero is an alpha billionaire, Roarke. They first met when Dallas was investigating a murder and Roarke was a suspect. They remind me a bit of Castle and Beckett, I love it. I am currently reading book 10, Witness in Death. If I’m not mistaken, I still have 30+ books to read from this series and that makes me feel really glad. It means more murder for Dallas and her crew to solve and more fun for me. I highly recommend this series for readers who enjoy a good mystery novel.

Another thing that’s keeping me busy lately is this game app Best Fiends. I’m addicted! I love the graphics and the game is just so fun. You can download it for free from Play Store.

Have a great day ahead!

Synopsis:

Gemma McDougall is certain about three things: One, she’s never going to lose her Latina ass. Two, her career is more important than the crappy (and nonexistent) relationships she’s had to endure her entire adult life. Three, she’s going to get the next promotion to detective if it kills her. But then her job literally almost kills her, and she’s forced into unwanted medical leave.

Sam London is certain about three things: One, he has no idea how to have a normal adult relationship and will likely die cold and alone, ravaged by wild dogs. Two, playing a game of Drinking Jenga, while fun, also leads to late nights sneaking into the neighbor’s yard and getting held at gunpoint by the neighbor’s daughter. Three, he has no idea what kind of trouble Gemma McDougall has gotten herself into, but he’s going to be a part of it, no matter what.

I really enjoyed reading this series. I loved all the characters and their stories. I heard that a book bundle of this series will be available soon and that it will be cheaper than buying the books one by one. So, if you liked the blurb and decided to read the Imperfect series you should consider buying the book bundle.

#Nerd by Cambria Hebert

Note: This is a very good sports contemporary romance! It reminds me of the move She’s All That starring Freddie Prince Jr in which the jock falls for a nerd.

Synopsis:

Two people from completely different worlds are about to be thrown together…

In more ways than one.

She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn’t even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo’s relationship.

But that’s about to change.

It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.

Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.

Stick to your circle.

And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.

Young Adult:

Even the Moon has Scars by Steph Campbell

Note: The cover is gorgeous and the story is just as sweet! It’s a feel-good YA contemporary romance and you will definitely enjoy Lena & Gabe’s adventure in Boston.

Synopsis:

Two strangers.
Two broken hearts.
One night to set each other free.

Almost dying from an undiagnosed heart condition means every second of your life is a precious gift to be guarded.
Lena Pettitt was born a miracle.
And her parents never let her forget it.
Even if that daily reminder kept her from experiencing the one thing they were trying to protect most–her life.

Gabriel Martinez’s heart has been ripped out.
His pride has been stomped on.
Oh, and he now has an arrest record that’s caused an even bigger rift between him and his DA mother. All for a love that wasn’t really true.

Now he’s exiled to his grandmother’s, working on his late grandpa’s old Corvair, when a shivering girl knocks on the garage door. Lena, left alone for the first time ever, has locked herself out of her house. Gabe knows he could help this girl get back inside her house–but that may mean missing the next train to Boston to pick up the part he’s spent eight weeks tracking down. She can wait for him at his grandmother’s or…

A few hours, an aluminum valve cover, and some strong coffee later, neither Gabe nor Lena can feign disappointment when they race to the station and arrive just as the last train home from Boston is pulling out.

As jaded as he is, Gabe can’t deny the fact that he’s excited to spend the night exploring a city he knows nearly every corner of, with a girl who sees magic in the simplest things.

Lena has been waiting for her tiny world to crack open her entire life. Now that it’s finally happened, she finds the only thing she can focus on is the unexpected tour guide who opens her eyes to possibilities she never imagined.

All they have is this one night, together, under the bright moon in a city full of hidden beauty.
It’s one night that will change how they see the world and the paths their hearts will take forever.

Tairen Soul Series by CL Wilson

Note: This was recommended to me by my friend Hazel, aka Rock Chick Fairy and all I can say is that is completely magical!

The Martian by Andy Weir

Note: This was a recommendation by my friend Melai and I loved it! Brainy is the new sexy, LOL. I also heard they are doing a movie real soon starring Matt Damon, eeep!!!

Synopsis:

Apollo 13 meets Cast Away in this grippingly detailed, brilliantly ingenious man-vs-nature survival thriller, set on the surface of Mars.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first men to walk on the surface of Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first man to die there.

It started with the dust storm that holed his suit and nearly killed him, and that forced his crew to leave him behind, sure he was already dead. Now he’s stranded millions of miles from the nearest human being, with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive–and even if he could get word out, his food would be gone years before a rescue mission could arrive. Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to get him first.

But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills–and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit–he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. But will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Dean Collins is in trouble, and it’s all Freya’s fault. After all, she started the trend of all the ladies on campus paying him to do their dirty work. But now, two of the boys he was hired to beat up are dead, and he’s the only connection.

When Freya agrees to help him find the real killer, she discovers that this bad boy isn’t so bad, after all. And getting involved with him means more than finding a killer, it means potentially losing her life…and her heart.

BOOK REVIEW: Accidentally in Love with…a God? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty awesome. I read a couple of books from the Accidentally Yours series by Ms. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff which I won through a giveaway hosted by the author. Here’s my review of the first book:

Accidentally in Love with…a God? (Accidentally Yours #1)

SYNOPSIS:

Twenty-two-year-old Emma Keane has a secret friend. He’s powerful, mysterious, and devastatingly handsome. In her dreams, anyway.

In real life, he’s an enigma. Maybe just a teensie jealous. Definitely overbearing. He’s also a voice only she can hear.

So who or what is he? He won’t say. But if she wants to be free, to be normal, Emma will have to trek to the jungles once ruled by the Mayans and find the forgotten ruin holding the answers.

However, the ruthless deity she’s about to unknowingly unleash on the modern world, might not be so easily extracted from her life. Bottom line, he’s got enemies, and now, so does she.

REVIEW:

I’m not very familiar with the Mayan culture because when I was a kid, I came across a book about the Mayan Civilization and I saw a photo of a shriveled body of a young boy that was sacrificed to their sun god—it freaked the heck out of me! I never saw the book again (I think my mom threw it, or something). So, I don’t have much knowledge about the basis of the Accidentally Yours series realm. However, just like in any other myth, the gods on this book are arrogant, irrational, quirky yet beautiful.

Guy is the Mayan god of death and war. In the beginning of the book, he was trapped in a cenote and his only connection outside is with Emma. Guy has been inside Emma’s head since she was a kid. As a girl, the voice was her friend but as she got older, she finds herself falling in love with the voice in her head (sounds crazy right? but I love crazy!). When the right time arrived, Guy urged Emma to free him from his cold prison, Emma agreed so that she’ll have a peaceful, “voice-free” head in the future.

I enjoyed the banters between the characters. Emma cracked me up with her musings, and I really like crazy Cimil! She reminds me of Nix from the Immortals After the Dark series by Kresley Cole. However, I’m not such a huge Guy fan. I guess being alone for seventy thousand years makes anyone doubt his feelings of falling in love, specially a god like Votan who wasn’t made to fall for any one. Still, I find his moments of indecisiveness annoying. I really enjoyed knowing the other Mayan gods despite their occassional crankiness. I mean, they’re immortals (and really OLD), they get bored and cranky from time to time, so I wont hold it against them. LOL

Overall, Accidentally in Love with a God is such an entertaining read. It has a good story line, unique premise and dynamic characters. The couple got their HEA but the story is a cliffhanger. Good thing I have books 2-4 handy eh?

If you are looking for a light and funny PNR book, this is for you!

My rating: 3.5 stars!

I got back from my vacation a couple of days ago and i’m still sick and jet lagged. It rained in Hongkong while we were there and that’s where I got my cough and colds. Anyhow, I’ll try to update the remaining “day” entries as soon as i can. =)

Mama's birthday and my flight back to Riyadh, August 24, 2014.

Mama’s birthday and my flight back to Riyadh, August 24, 2014.

I have been reading non-stop since I came back from my vacation. I just finished Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins and Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan and John Rocco. Both novels are wonderful and very entertaining. I’ve been waiting for the third and final installment of the Anna and the French Kiss series since last year, it was a bit delayed but it was worth the wait! For all the fans of the series or any YA contemporary romance novel fan, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Isla and the Happily Ever After. Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods is an interesting spin to my favorite Greek Mythology, it was such a fun read! I also loved the illustration. Don’t forget to add this book on your TBR.

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss #3) by Stephanie Perkins

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss #3) by Stephanie Perkins

From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.

Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods (Percy Jackson and the Olympians companion book) by Rick Riordan (Goodreads Author), John Rocco (Illustrator).

‘A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like, Can we do this anonymously? Because I don’t need the Olympians mad at me again. But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week.’ So begins Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic–and sarcastic asides–to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on a who’s who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. ‘If you like horror shows, blood baths, lying, stealing, backstabbing, and cannibalism, then read on, because it definitely was a Golden Age for all that.’ Dramatic full-color illustrations throughout by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco make this volume–a must for home, library, and classroom shelves–as stunning as it is entertaining.

Hi everyone! I woke up early today to update my blog, and it was cold and raining. Good thing I didn’t plan anything today. It’s nice to just stay in and laze around the house. Anyway, the reason I’m blogging early is because I would like to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who voted for my book trailer on the book trailer making contest hosted and sponsored by Schmexy Girl Book Blog and Ms. Kennedy Ryan.

Thank you so much! I won the book trailer making contest because of you all! I’d love to do this again given the right materials (I saw another book trailer making contest but the book isn’t my cup of tea). Thank you for your support and please feel free to spread the video. When You Are Mine is Kennedy Ryan’s debut novel and the sequel will be out on October!

A passionate connection with her would-be fiancé, Cam. Kerris wants to believe that sparks are overrated-until Walsh Bennett lights her up like the Fourth of July.

. . . but what about love?

As one of the East Coast’s most eligible bachelors, Walsh enjoys financial independence, fulfilling work with his family’s nonprofit, and plenty of female attention. But lately he’s been distracted by the one woman he can’t have. Lovely to look at and even sweeter to know, Kerris is the soul mate Walsh never thought he would find. The problem is, his best friend found her first . . .
