Because She Would Ask Me Why I Loved Her by Christopher Brennan

If questioning would make us wise
No eyes would ever gaze in eyes;
If all our tale were told in speech
No mouths would wander each to each.

Were spirits free from mortal mesh
And love not bound in hearts of flesh
No aching breasts would yearn to meet
And find their ecstasy complete.

For who is there that lives and knows
The secret powers by which he grows?
Were knowledge all, what were our need
To thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?.

Then seek not, sweet, the “If” and “Why”
I love you now until I die.
For I must love because I live
And life in me is what you give.

Love is knowing that sometimes your words will never be enough, that your heartbeat will never be enough. Love is knowing that sometime you’re going to have to rely on someone else’s beat to make your story work.

Such a beautiful poem… I still don’t have a copy of her book. =(

This is the problem with stories:
They have to leave something out.
The editor cuts a line and someone’s face fades;
the editor says two hundred words or less, and suddenly
a whole family goes missing.
The spotlight isn’t about the light, it’s how
it makes everything around it dark

My grandfather’s face is erased from every story.
The machines survive and the man who made them doesn’t.
The machines make the photo, but their maker is out of frame.

But we choose where to point the camera.
We choose how to tell the story.
We can choose which clothing the hero wears.

I could tell you this is a story about a soldier.
I could tell you this is a story about the blue-collar man
but really, this is just the story of my grandfather.

when considering super powers
if i could regenerate every damaged done to my body
i would double back flip, belly flop off the tallest building i could find.
i would make you watch
wouldn’t have to tell you
it wont kill me
when my body hits the ground
turns bone to dust
when blood splatters across your face
there will be a moment
where your heart stops
when the belly drops out of your everything
i’ll calmly walk up to you and say yeah
ever since you killed yourself
it’s been like that
for all of us
all the time

if i could fly
i would take you so high
so fast
you’ll be terrified
the weak resistance alone
will rip you out of my arms
but do not worry
i would hold on to you
with all of this fear
and longing
i would whisper in your ear
if only you told us something was wrong
we could’ve hold you
told you we loved you
we could’ve helped

a friend asked me to write a poem based on his experience, so here it is. M, i hope you liked it!

PS. next time, it won’t be free! LOL

can i talk to you?

i hope your boyfriend won’t mind.

it will only take a few minutes

of your time,

i promise.

how are you doing?

does he take care of you well?

i hope he does…

and yes,

i have forgiven you.

in case you’re wondering.

does he make you smile?

i hope he does…

you deserve it,

even though you made me cry.

but that’s alright

i’ll forget it

just so you know

i’m happy for you.

it looks like you found the one,

even though you trampled my heart

in the process.

but that’s okay,

it’s all part of the game right?

i’m sorry i wasn’t enough for you

i wish you told me

so that we could have skipped

all the mess

and the heartache.

but that’s fine,

i’m good now.

i gotta go soon.

i’ll pray that he’ll treat you right,

but be good to him too okay?

i’ll move on with my life now.

and thank you

for your time.

where is mr. right? (a poem)

This is for my friend P. I hope you find your “Mr. Right” soon!

where is mr. right?

tic toc,

i hear my biological clock

marking off the days wasted

for kissing

all the frogs in the pond.

i still don’t have my prince charming.

where is my happy ending?

tic toc,

i hear the mocking sounds

of my biological clock.

they say there are so many fish in the sea,

and boy were they true–

but I seem to keep on reeling the wrong fishes.

is there something wrong with the bait?

or am I just fishing in the wrong sea?

where is my perfect man?

my one true love?

is he even real,

or just a character in my dream?
